What is DNS ?

DNS stand for “Domain Name System”

It is easy to remember a domain name such as www.google.com rather than remember the corresponding IP address. However TCP/IP needs the destination IP address to fill the destination IP address field of the IP packet. Therefore the domain name and corresponding IP address should be maintained in a separate server and this program is called the DNS Server process and the corresponding protocol is called DNS protocol.
