Some of them are intended to be unique within the scope of the global Internet, while others need to be unique only within the scope of an enterprise.

IP Address Classes

      There are 5 different classes. You can determine which class any ip address is in by examining the first 4 bits of the ip.

Class A :- begin with 0xxx, or 1 to 126 decimal.
Class B :- begin with 10xx, or 128 to 191 decimal.
Class C:- begin with 110x, or 192 to 223 decimal.
Class D:- begin with 1110, or 224 to 239 decimal.
Class E:- begin with 1111, or 240 to 254 decimal.

Static and Dynamic IP Addressing

Static IP address

       The addressing system was originally designed for very logical condition in which each computer is preconfigured with an ip address.
The principal shortcomings of static ip addressing are
Mare configuration-Each client must be configured individually. A change to the ip address space or to some other parameter(such as the DNS server addresses)means that each client must be reconfigured     separately,
More addresses-Each computer use an ip address whether it is currently on the network or not.
Reduced flexibility-A computer must be manually reconfigured if it is assigned to a different sub network.

Dynamic IP address

Internet Service Providers use dynamic allocation to assign addresses from a small pool to a larger number of customers. This is used for dial-up access, WiFi and other temporary connections, allowing a portable computer user to automatically connect to a variety of services without needing to know the addressing details of each network. Users with a dynamic ip address may have trouble running their own email server. In recent years services such as mail-abuse.org have collected lists of these ip address ranges and can be used as a block list. The most common protocol used to dynamically assign addresses is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). DHCP includes a lease time which determines how long the requester can use an ip address before requesting its renewal, allowing addresses to be reclaimed if the requester goes offline. The DHCP server listens for requests and then assigns an ip address. System administrators may set the DHCP server so that it assigns addresses at random, or based on a predetermined policy. Once a machine receives its new IP address, it may tell that address to a Dynamic DNS server. It is common to use dynamic allocation for private networks. Since private networks rarely have an ip shortage, it is possible to assign the same ip address to the same computer on each request or to define an extended lease time. These two methods simulate static ip address assignment.
